I suppose you could say that 2 weeks after the Houston Warmup came the same old story of another tournament. Only the DFW State Tourney wasn’t ‘just another tournament’-it was special. Yet at the same time, I most likely would admit that every tournament I’ve attended is special. :-)

A friend of mine once argued that if everything is special then nothing is special. I guess I can see the logic, but somehow it doesn’t seem to work that way. Specialness is like uniqueness. Just because the works of art in a certain gallery can all be classified as “unique”, that doesn’t necessitate canceling out their uniqueness across the board and claiming they must all be the same then.

Tournaments work the same way. Every tournament allows us to connect with new souls or with old ones in a new way. Every tournament grants fresh eyes to receive our well-worn speeches in novel ways which revives us. Every tournament provides another opportunity to unleash our tongue in a bridled fashion. Man, that last sentence is true but unleashing and bridling seem like such a paradox!

OK, I’ll stop thinking abstractly now and just say the tournament was cool. :-) Here are some pictures:

Yep, very cool. And special. ;-)
